A couple of Scottish Seat selections

Miles Briggs was today selected to fight North East Fife for the Scottish Conservatives. The seat has been Liberal since 1987 when Menzies Campbell defeated then Tory MP Barry Henderson. Miles is a political adviser to Nanette Milne MSP and Elizabeth Smith MSP. The Lib Dems have a 12,751 majority over the Conservatives so Miles has quite a big task ahead of him.

The party have also selected in a number of Glasgow seats:

Excellent news about Miles- he is one of the party's most dedicated and effective campaigners and good luck to him in North East Fife where the LDs have become complacent.

If we can cut Sir Menzies majority in half (to 6k) then that will put us in an excellent position for when he steps down at the GE to be held in '11 or '12

I heard NE Fife attracted a lot of candidates this time including many older and experienced ones so all credit to Myles for this.

he has no chance of cutting Campbell's majority. I am sure it will increase.

I disagree with the last post. 2005 was an exceptional election for the LDs with Chatshow charlie at the height of his popularity on the back of anti-Iraq feeling. That is all gone for 2009/10 so Myles will reduce the majority even if he does nothing- because of a national trend. NEFifer.

I disagree; Campbell is much lower profile; gone from being deputy leader to a back bencher. Plus the LD's are down in the polls, especially in Scotland. That, combined with the uptick in the polls for us, plus favorable coverage (for once) over the budget means that we have a decent shot of improving.

Despite being a rampant SNP supporter I am so chuft for Miles. We went to the same high school and he really is a great guy and will no doubt be a fantastic candidate.
